M1s lose to Bourne Deeping

Brentwood 1st XI - 1
Bourne Deeping 1st XI - 6

(Bourne and Market Deeping are two small towns north of Peterborough)

Coming off the back of an emphatic victory last week, Brentwood headed into the fixture with high spirits, looking forward to another three points.

It seemed to be business as usual, as minutes in, Henry Woollaston baseballed the ball into the back of the goal from near, following a deflected shot from James Duggan off of the keeper. Brentwood kept up the high pressure on the visiting side, controlling the possession and playing a strong passing game. Despite being on top of the game for the large part of the opening half, Brentwood received no further reward for their efforts. The game shifted, and suddenly Brentwood were put on the back foot. Following a long period of pressure, a Deeping penalty-corner brought the visitors level with a low drag-flick. it was by no means a crisis-point in the game, however it clearly flustered Brentwood, as their game slowly began to deteriorate. Poor passes and decisions let Deeping into the game, far more than they should have been, as they hurt brentwood on the counter attack, giving them the lead for the first time in the game. Within a period of five minutes, Brentwood capitulated and lost all composure as two more preventable goals found their way into the back of their net, just as the half ended. It was a hefty deficit, although by no means an insurmountable one.

at 4-1 down, Brentwood needed to come out of the dugout firing, although unfortunately, the nightmare only continued, as another goal was let in by an open man on the top of the circle. the Brentwood heads went down, as the home side, despite the strong support from the sidelines, couldn't raise their game and looked only a shadow of the team from the week before. Chances were squandered and a poor overall game lead to frustration.

As the clock ticked down, Deeping had two players sin-binned and although there were a few chances to come by for Brentwood, none were converted. The team looked beaten, as a final goal in the closing stages sealed a humiliating 6-1 defeat for the home side, who will look to bounce back strongly against bottom-of-the-table St. Ives next week.
