Brentwood 1Xl vs Colchester 1Xl
Before the match, the team talk for Brentwood focused on starting the game well and getting on the scoresheet early. Unfortunately, Colchester came out of the blocks on the front foot and took the lead midway through the first half.
Brentwood didn't let their head go down and were soon back on level terms when Steve Naven converted a short corner. It wasn't his finest goal ever when a drag flick went slightly wrong but the goal keeper was completely fooled and the ball trickled past his foot to the loud cheer of the Brentwood players mixed with a couple of chuckles! Every goal is a goal!
Brentwood then started to find their feet in the game and started to gain more possession, however Colchester managed to take back the lead when the Brentwood defence seemed to freeze and after a save from Arwyn James in goal the Colchester forward managed to hit the ball across goal for his team mate to finish from a yard out.
Half time came and this time the team talk was all about us! We were better than Colchester, faster and stronger and if we played like we knew we could we would turn this game around and take all 3 points.
The second half began and the team talk reinvigorated the Brentwood side who started to look like themselves again. I'm sure Flippers note book had the exact stat recorded but the possession was highly in Brentwood's favour and they started to make it count.
The second half was the Steve Naven show! I'm not sure which order they came in but there were 2 more short corners and a great team goal with clever passing down the right for an easy tap in all converted brilliantly by the main man. He said before the game that he would score 4 and he did!
The game ended 4-2 to Brentwood who deserved their win. Next week sees the mighty eagles travel to Harpenden where they will be expecting to take another 3 points.
