Brentwood 1st XI 3 - 3 Berkhamsted 1st XI
A storm was brewing over Becket Keys and Brentwood were hoping that the weather would be beneficial for them to get a much needed win after a couple of games without a point.
The game started and Brentwood were on the front foot straight away. After some good pressure from the forward line, Steve Naven ignored the calls from his captain and swepped the ball past the face of the keeper and managed to squeeze the ball in between the post and the man between the sticks.
The rest of the second half was a bit of a stalemate with some promising play from both sides and chances at both ends.
The second half got even better for the home side when Steve Naven managed to grab a second when a wayward drag flick caught the tip of the defenders stick who managed to deflect it into his own goal.
Then the game went a bit south. The away team got a bit lucky with a short corner call and the big centre forward managed to find the gap between the keepers arms with a powerful drag flick to get Berkhamsted back in the game.
Not long after, another short was awarded and once the defenders got settled on the line, Simon Cannon went to early and got sent to the half way line leaving the other 3 defenders to attempt to save the equaliser. Unfortunately another powerful drag flick from the big guy deflected off Simon Teale's knee and flew into the top corner.
Brentwood had a few chances to put themselves back ahead but couldn't make them count.
With a couple of minutes to go Berkhamsted managed to nab what they thought would be the winning goal when the attacker pealed off the defender to sweep it in above the logged keeper however Steve Naven from the restart went on a mazy run and managed to win a last gasp short corner. The final whistle blew and the home team surrounded the D. Jak Taylor dragged the ball out to Simon Teale at the top of the D for Steve Naven to drag the ball into the top left to seal a hat-rick.
The final score was 3-3. Onto next week where Brentwood play bottom of the league Southend away.
