Brentwood were hosts to Wapping this weekend in their second home game on the bounch and were in high spirits after a great 6-2 win last week.
The home side knew this was going to be one of their tougher games of this season and they weren't wrong. With
Wapping taking an early lead from a underserved short corner the Brentwood side had a fight on their hands for the next 70mins.
Undeterred they pushed hard and kept the game pace at a high level and made the away side work extremely hard, half way through the first half a great ball from the back and a swift touch through to the d the ball found it's way onto the end of cashel Gleesons stick who wasted no time in hammering the ball cleanly into the back of the net to make the score one a piece.
With the play going back and forth the whole length of the pitch Wapping again scored a very weak goal through some miscommunication with the defence just before the half time whistle.
After a good team talk from the captain and player manger Stuart Piper the boys stormed the second half knowing that this game was there for the taking. Some fantastic skill through the mid field and forward line got the ball to the team's youngest player Alex Haynes who sold his defender a great dummie and with his back to goal stepped inside the top left of the D and with a great strike beat the goalie on his far side post to bring the game to all square.
Shortly after a Wapping player was given a yellow card and sent to the sin bin, Brentwood made good of this and after a barrage of attacks from the forward line who had run their socks of the umpire blew for a short corner after a foul in the D. Again another perfect routine straight out of the training ground saw the slip ball to Paul Haynes at the far post to confidently touch the ball in for Brentwood to take the lead. With a man still off and the away side loosing their momentum Brentwood kept the pressure on and after a nail bitting last ten minutes which saw keeper Ian Maolne pull off a great diving save the three points looked safe.Just to add icing on the cake a shot rebounded off a Wapping players body on the goal line resulting in a penalty flick and upstepped the rock at flicks Ian Forbes to net his third flick of the season without any misses! The final whistle blew to the delight of the players and the supporting crowds and with that 4-2 win it saw the local side take top of the table.
