Brentwood wap Wapping!
After dropping to 3rd position in the League Brentwood took on 5th position Wapping in a battle for 3 points and to keep in the running for the league title and promotion. Playing away from home at their nemesis ground, ‘Mile End’, Brentwood knew they had a tough game ahead.
The game started at a very quick pace with Brentwood scoring three goals in the first fifteen minutes with goals coming from Simon Rettenbury, Nick hull and an own goal.
Wapping managed to score two very weak goals before the half time whistle bringing the score line to 3 – 2 . A reverse stick shot into the bottom left hand corner wrong footing keeper Ian Malone and the second from a short corner routine with the ball bobbling over sweeper and captain Simon Teale’s stick to find the back board.
After a very tactical half time team talk Brentwood knew the next goal would be decisive and the potential match winner.
Shortly after the start of the half Brentwood secured their 4th with a drilled ball into the D and a defection off the Wapping defence. Minutes later Wapping responded with a cross D ball to an unmarked man who slipped it home. Pressure mounted but the ever professional Brentwood kept to their game plan and their 5th goal was scored by top goal scorer and vice captain James Duggan. After a superb run through midfield by Alex Henderson the ball was clinically executed to find the stick of deadly Duggan who found the back of the net.
The last nail in the coffin was a thunderbolt shot at the top of the D by Ian "veteran" Forbes to make the score line 6 – 3.
Wapping won a last short corner as the final whistle blew. With 10 men perched at the top of the D they clearly outnumbered the Brentwood defensive line and slotted their 4 goal home.
On the final whistle Brentwood were victorious with the end result 6-4 and a vital 3 points secured.
This now pushes Brentwood into second position and 2 points off the league leaders Chelmsford.
Next week see Brentwood take on Potters Bar at home.
