Witham (3) - 3 Brentwood (3) - 7

A cagey start from both teams soon saw Brentwood start to dominate. Positive runs down the right wing from James Boumphrey eventually lead to an opener from Matt Lockwood who got on the end of a great cross.

Unfortunately this stirred Witham who responded well and were quickly back on level terms. Brentwood continued to play positively and a good run down the left from Matt Pengilly once again found its way to Matt L who slotted home to make it 2-1.

Witham though were not going down without a fight and fought back to equalise despite good saves from Paul Holland in the Brentwood goal.

The battling nature of Brentwood 3s was undeterred as they continued to dominate possession and create the better chances. A great ball from Matt L found Logan Holland in the Witham D and he duly delivered a fine finish to put Brentwood back in front once again. Just before the half time whistle an outstanding individual effort from Simon Hill made it 4-2, picking the ball up near the half way line before a mazy run was was finished off in style with a fantastic finish into the bottom corner.

Brentwood started the second half as they had the first, pressing high and dominating possession in an attempt to fin the fifth goal and kill off the game. However, against the run of play and possibly due to some dubious umpiring Witham managed to snatch a third, 4-3.

Could Brentwood hold their nerve and get the win?

Brentwood heads stayed high and weathered some Witham pressure to regain control of the game. Great runs from Logan, Simon H and Matt L resulted in a flurry of short corners to Brentwood. Following several close calls saves from the Witham keeper, up stepped the captain Ian Anderson to fire a thunderous shot past the goalkeeper, 5-3.

This broke a tired Witham team who were now being overrun by a fitter slick passing Brentwood side. Once again positive play and pressure was reward with two greatly worked team goals from short corners. Both times the ball found its way back to injector Simon H who unselfishly squared to Matt P and Gary Waller respectively to slot home from close range and leave the 3s with a well earned 7-3 win.
