Saturday 15th November
Waltham Forest 1s 2- Brentwood 1s 3
The ladies travelled away to the newly developed Lea Valley National Hockey Centre to play against Waltham Forest who came up into Div 1 with Brentwood last season. After two disappointing results, the girls were determined to get a win this week however it was the home side that got off to the better start, also determined to get a result themselves. Brentwood were caught out in the first 10 minutes and found themselves overloaded at the back and Waltham Forest managed to put themselves 1-0 ahead. The rest of the half remained quite even and Brentwood started to find their footing and played a much more offensive game. They were awarded with a penalty corner which Lauren Slater converted with an unstoppable strike into the back of the goal.
The half time team talk was direct and to the point, tighten up, better passing and more goals. The girls got off to a much better start after being a disappointed with the performance in the first half. They applied plenty of pressure on the home team from the front line forcing them to make mistakes which Brentwood could capitalise on. They were soon awarded another penalty corner which this time went back to injector Charlotte Holt, who fired across the "D" for a deflection into the goal from Ruth Tilsley. Spurred on from the goal the away team gained more momentum and player of the match, Lizzie Tyler, won them another short corner after a great run down the right hand side and being fouled in the "D". After the initial shot was saved, the ball rebounded to Ruth who deflected the ball over the keeper. With still around 15 minutes to go the objective was to hold a press and ensure that Waltham Forest did not come back. Unfortunately the girls found themselves again in an overloaded situation and the home team managed to get a goal back. With minutes remaining, Brentwood were determined to come away with the three points and held off any more attacks until the final whistle which resulted in them regaining third spot in the league.
The Ladies face St Albans, who are top of the league, this Saturday at home.
