Ladies 1s - 2 St Albans II - 5

Saturday 22nd November
Brentwood Ladies 1s 2 - 5 St Albans

The heavens had opened and Brentwood were destined to play in the rain against St.Albans, who were sitting top of the league. However, it was the visitors who got of to the dream start.
Immediately putting the visitors under pressure from the off, Brentwood quickly gained possession and passing the ball quickly around the midfield a break up the right was created. Lizzie Tyler finished the move by sweeping the ball past the St.Albans goalkeeper to give the home side the lead within 5 minutes.
Brentwood dominated the right hand side and continued to make chances but couldn't convert. However, St Albans were equally quick to spot the danger that Brentwood were posing on the right and centre and using their experience they packed out these areas in the midfield and began to assert their authority.
The visitors equalised when a hopeful long ball into the circle found a forwards stick to deflect it into the roof of the net. From this point the away team dominated play and as Brentwood went missing they found lots of space to create attack after attack and tucked away 4 more chances to give themselves an unassailable 5-1 lead at half time.
Lucky not to be further behind the ladies were given a stern talking too at half time. With nothing to lose the home team were determined to put up more of a fight in the second half and showing the grit and determination that alluded them in the first half, the home team pressed high and didn't give St Albans time on the ball.
This tactic soon paid off as Lizzie and Josie Carver intercepted the ball in their own half and set up a break to win a short corner. The first strike from Lauren Slater was superbly deflected into the goal by Charlotte Holt to bring the score to 5-2.
St.Albans continued to push for more goals but were repeatedly frustrated by the Brentwood defence who, lead by captain and player of the match Emily Wright, held firm. Whilst Brentwood pushed hard in what was a second half performance poles apart from the first, they were unable to capitalise from the pressure they created and the score remained disappointingly at 5-2 for Brentwood's worst defeat of the season.
Next week Brentwood travel to Old Loughtonian's where they will be looking to end the first half of matches on a more positive note.
