Ladies fall in Stortford

Brentwood Ladies 1’s travelled away to Bishop Stortford this weekend hoping to build on their strong performances of the previous two weeks and come away with a win.

From the start Stortford proved their position in the league with some strong passing moves through the centre of the pitch however the Brentwood defence stayed strong to keep the Stortford forward line out. Some great distribution from Nat Gilder in the centre saw play open up for Brentwood on the left hand side as they settled into the passing game they favour, however they were unable to break the solid Stortford defence.

The first half finished 0-0 with both sides playing good hockey but unable to convert a number of chances.

The second half saw a more determined Stortford side take to the pitch, from the start they were hungry for goals and some quick passing up front saw them go 2-0 up in the first 5 minutes. However Brentwood were not to be deterred and continued to battle. A strong run and pass from right back Lisa Payne released Haylee Adams down the right hand side who found Lucy Roberts in the Dee, however the Stortford defence were quick to spot the danger and squash Brentwoods opportunity.

Stortfords determination paid off when a further two quick goals were scored to take them to 4-0.

Brentwood’s break came about 10 minutes from time when captain Emily Wright pushed high and set up Louise Humphreys in the Dee who won a well fought short corner, which was brilliantly deflected into the goal by Nikki Brimson on the far post. However this wasn’t enough for Brentwood who were caught out in the last few minutes to finish the game 5-1.

Next week Brentwood face Crostyx away hoping to get some well deserved points out of the final few games of the season.
