Brentwood come back to secure a draw

The ladies’ hosted Sudbury last Saturday in a top of the table clash. The home team were determined to capitalise on their win from last week and probably started off with the most pressure with man of the match, Louise Humphreys, defending strongly from the front line along with Lauren Simmons winning plenty of possession for the team. The first goal came about 10 minutes in when Haylee Adams found some space down the right hand side to Shirley Osmotherly who ran the line and cut in to the dee to pass across to Nikki Brimson who calmly slotted it in. The team worked hard but found themselves conceding a goal when a cross from the right of the dee unfortunately hit the back of a defender to go in. Sudbury then applied more pressure on the home team and they managed to find their key forward who scored two more goals for them in the first half. Some top class keeping from Lorna Parsons kept the other shots at bay while the defence of Ruth Tilsley, Sandy Pass and Lisa Payne stopped Sudbury from have more opportunities and it was probably the home team that finished the half the more determined.

The half time team talk was very positive with tactics to keep possession and mark their key player out of the game which was the job for captain, Emily Wright. The girls soon took control back of the game and won a short corner. A change in routine saw the ball passed back to Charlotte Holt who calmly deflected it pass the keeper in to the goal. Natalie Gilder, Anna Guida and Zoe Hall worked very well in the midfield to stop the play coming through to the defence. The home team did find themselves on the back foot for a little while and conceded a few short corners in succession however great defending meant that Sudbury could not capitalise on the advantage. The game turned again and Brentwood advanced up the pitch to find Nikki Brimson in the dee who again calmly slotted it pass the keeper for her second goal of the game.

Brentwood were pleased with the result and to come back to draw after being 3-1 down. Next week they travel away to Welwyn Garden City.
