Brentwood were looking to capitalise on last week’s win against a familiar opposition who were hot on their tails in the league standings. Waltham Forest started the game with the possession and took the lead within the first couple of minutes when a cross in front of goal was quickly deflected past the keeper. A bit unsure how that happened, Brentwood fought back hard and enjoyed plenty of possession with the forward line of Lisa Payne, Louise Humphreys and Nikki Brimson applying plenty of pressure on the Waltham Forest defence. Brentwood created a couple of chances and won a few short corners however one turned into a break from the away team but defenders Sandy Pass and Emily Wright were back to stop their chance. Shortly after the away team had a bit of a comeback and mimicked their first goal with an unstoppable deflection into the far post. Brentwood fought back and won a penalty corner, it was passed out from the top to Nat Gilder who passed it to Nikki Brimson out wide on the post for a routine deflection into the goal.
The second half started lively and midfielder’s Shirley Osmotherly, Anna Guida and Charlotte Holt helped Brentwood advance up the pitch. However, Waltham Forest continued to fight back and found themselves with a one on one chance with keeper, Lorna Parsons, who came out for a superb save. They continued to pressure the Brentwood defence but Haylee Adams and Ruth Tilsley stopped any chances of a goal. The pressure did give the away team a succession of short corners of which they managed to slip past the number 1 runner into the corner of the goal to take the lead 3-1. Brentwood then pressed high to try and level the score with Lauren Simmons chasing down the Waltham Forest defence now winning Brentwood a penalty corner. A straight strike from Tilsley got the home team that bit closer but with only minutes remaining they couldn’t capitalise and get the result they were so desperate seeking.
After a disappointing result Brentwood slip to fourth in the table but are determined to fight back next week in a local friendly derby against Basildon away.
