It just wasn't going to go our way

Mrs Walker got the weather forecast completely wrong as they headed to Waltham Forest after an early start, on a very miserable Saturday morning. Despite the gloomy outlook, Brentwood got off to a particularly quick start and piled on the pressure to Waltham Forest from the get go. The forward line created plenty of chances and their movement allowed Beth James to make several runs from midfield, linking up with Lily Wiltshire, Lauren Blackburn and Lizzie Tyler on the wings. Emily Walker from the centre was able to find Bev Simmons and Shirley Osmotherly- Hull on several occasions and they continued to press high up the field. Waltham Forest caught Brentwood on the break from here and scored against the run of play, despite Haylee Adams and Francesca Hayden-Sims keeping the oppo’s changing formation under control along with Lisa Payne, Zoe Hall and Natalie Gilder who were solid in defence.

Shortly in to the second half, Waltham Forest took a quick hit outside the “23” and a running deflection gave keeper, Lorna Parsons, an unstoppable ball for their second goal. Determined not to give up. Brentwood pressed for the goal that they had been hunting all game and pressured their opposition. With about 10 minutes to go, Gilder passed quickly out of the back line to Tyler in midfield who then drove to the dee, dummied the keeper and managed to get Brentwood that goal they had been pushing for.

In all they had about 20 penalty corner chances in the game, open play shots saved on the line, balls hitting the posts and Forest’s defence had to work hard and tirelessly leaving Brentwood very disappointed to come away with no points.

A huge effort was made by all on the pitch this week leaving the Ladies very frustrated and upset after the game. However, they can take all of their hard work in to next week’s game at home. Today, it just wasn’t going to go their way.

Man of the Match went to Nat Gilder who was solid in defence and great passing rom the back. Lily, Lisa, Lizzie, Emily and Haylee all received votes too.

Dick of the Day went to Mrs Osmotherly-Hull for a green card! Butter wouldn’t melt….! A few other votes went out too, Lily for being late to the meet and Lorna for a speedy journey to the match. Despite the teas being in the same place as last year and all of a 5 minute journey down the road, we seemed to lose people en route, somebody even giving up and heading home?! Noted for next year!

Roundabout count was official 1 this week!
