A storming win at home

The wimp vests didn’t last too long and the guns came out for a fight today by the team.
Thurrock had been doing very well in the league so far but that didn’t matter and was irrelevant for this Brentwood team today.
Bev Simmons, Lizzie Tyler and Beth James worked hard, piling plenty of pressure on the Thurrock defence to the point that they could barely get out of their own quarter. The team’s tenacity soon resulted with Lily Wiltshire scoring the first goal for the team.
Thurrock resulted to the long crash ball but Haylee Adams and Lisa Payne were calm and simply stepped in front to pick up the passes. Thurrock did have some pressure and were awarded with some chance with penalty corners but Lorna Parsons was strong in goal and determined to keep another clean sheet.
Shirley Osmotherly-Hull and Anna Guida ensured the left and right mid-field players weren’t getting pass them and prevented the away team to get any more momentum up the pitch. Hayden-Sims was ruthless in the centre and must have covered every corner of the pitch helping out her team.
Brentwood were ready for Thurrock to come back strong in the second half but the Ladies stepped up another gear and dominated for the majority. Natalie Gilder was relentless running up and down the right hand side, her pass found Hayden-Sims who crossed it at pace to the dee where Blackburn was waiting for a touch which saw the ball fly in to the top left hand corner for a phenomenal goal. More pressure came from the team and a battle for a goal on the line was stopped by a Thurrock defender’s body and Brentwood were awarded the penalty flick. Walker stepped up and calmly fired a powerful ball in to the bottom right corner, thanking Parsons for practicing at training that week! The team were hungry for even more, another penalty corner was awarded for the team’s battling, this time Gilder’s fierce strike went to the bottom right hand corner and came back out to the half way line with the power it was hit.
The talks went in to the night reflecting on their super performance today.
Man of the Match went to Lauren Blackburn for her endless work rate plus that wonder goal. Fran, Nat, Beth and Lizzie all received votes too.
Sadly Lauren also got Dick of the Day, well…just because!
