Brentwood Men's 5ths met Chelmsford Men's 7th last Saturday and shared the points in a splendid game of hockey.
Chelmsford were only one point ahead of the 5s in the league so both teams knew it was going to be a close affair.
Firstly thanks to Arwyn GK who volunteered to play in goal rather than go back to the bar after his game to enjoy the rugby action on TV with a cold pint in his hand! On that point. The 5s need a goalkeeper. If you know anyone interested in going between the sticks then please encourage them to do so (we have the kit just not a man to wear it!).
The first goal was scored by Som. Neat passing play took the ball into the D and Som found himself with work to do on the right and side of the D. A sweeping hit across his body pulled the ball across and into the goal from a tight angle.
Chelmsford bounced back with their only penalty corner of the match. It was a good one. Quick push out, stop and hit. Bottom corner hard and fast.
1 - 1 and all still to play for. Both teams jostled for position. Passes met their target and passes went astray. That's 5th team hockey. Everyone played in a good spirit but there was not to be a winner.
Hand shakes all round as both team congratulated each other on a competitive match.
Roll on next week. Maldon 2nds away.
